Gutter Questions, Answered by Ed
Straight answers about seamless steel gutters, downspouts, gutter protection, snow rods, and Northeast Washington weather.
Choosing the right gutter system is not just about picking a product. Around here, gutters need to handle rain, snow, ice, pine needles, steel roofs, heavy runoff, and rooflines that are not always simple. These answers cover the questions homeowners commonly ask before calling Huguenin Construction for a free estimate.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are seamless rain gutters?
Seamless rain gutters are made in long, custom-fit sections instead of being pieced together in short sections. That means fewer seams, fewer weak points, and a cleaner finished look.
I install heavy-duty seamless steel gutters because they hold up better for the kind of weather we get here in Northeast Washington.
Why do you use steel gutters?
Around here, gutters need to do more than catch rain. They have to deal with snow, ice, pine needles, heavy runoff, freezing weather, and sometimes steel roofs that shed snow fast.

Steel gutters are stronger than many standard light-duty gutter systems. I like using materials that are built to last and built for the conditions we actually have here.
Do you offer free estimates?
Yes. Call us and we can talk through what you need. I’ll look at the roofline, where the water needs to go, downspout placement, snow and ice concerns, and any problem areas that may affect the installation.

Every building is a little different, so an estimate helps me give you a better answer than a quick guess over the phone.
How long have you been installing gutters?
I’ve been doing gutter work for more than 30 years. Over that time, I’ve worked on a lot of homes, shops, cabins, older buildings, steel roofs, and tricky rooflines.

Experience matters because a good gutter system is not just about hanging a gutter. It’s about understanding how water moves and how the system needs to perform over time.
What areas do you serve?
We serve Northeast Washington, including Colville, Stevens County, Ferry County, Pend Oreille County, and surrounding rural communities.

If you are not sure whether we come to your area, just give us a call.
What gutter services do you provide?
We install heavy-duty seamless steel rain gutters, downspouts, gutter protection, color-matched gutter systems, steel roof gutter systems, and snow and ice gutter solutions.

I also work on difficult rooflines, older homes, settled buildings, shops, cabins, and rural properties where the gutter system needs a little more thought than a basic straight run.
Do you install gutter protection?
Yes. We offer professional gutter protection options designed to help reduce clogs from leaves, pine needles, seeds, and other debris.

Gutter protection can help keep water flowing and reduce how often gutters need to be cleaned, especially in areas with trees. It still needs to be checked once in a while, but it can make a big difference.
What gutter protection products do you use?
We currently use UltraFlo MicroX and Hydro Flo stainless steel mesh gutter protection.

Both are designed to help keep debris out of the gutter while still allowing water to flow through the system. I can look at your roof, trees, and gutter setup and help recommend what makes the most sense.
Will gutter protection mean I never have to clean my gutters again?
No. I would rather be honest about that.

Gutter protection helps reduce debris buildup, but no system can promise that you will never need to check your gutters again. Pine needles, roof valleys, heavy tree coverage, and certain rooflines can still create buildup in certain areas.

The goal is to reduce clogging, reduce overflow, and reduce how often you need to deal with gutter cleaning.
Do you install downspouts?
Yes. Downspouts are an important part of the system.

A gutter only works if the water has somewhere to go. I plan downspout placement to help move water away from the home, foundation, walkways, landscaping, and areas where people come and go.
Do you offer color options?
Yes. We offer gutter and downspout color options so the system can complement your roof, siding, trim, fascia, brick, stone, or other exterior finishes.

Some customers want the gutters to blend in quietly with the home. Others prefer a clean contrast. We can review available color options during the estimate and help you choose a color that works well with your home or building.

Colors shown are approximate, and final availability may vary by material, supplier, and current stock.

Can gutters be installed on steel roofs?
Yes. Steel roofs are one of the things I pay close attention to.

Steel roofs can be hard on gutters because snow and ice can release quickly and hit the gutter system with a lot of force. That is why the gutter material, attachment method, fasteners, and snow protection all matter.

I build steel roof gutter systems with those conditions in mind.
What are snow rods?
Snow rods are added protection for steel roof gutter systems. They help support the gutter when snow and ice come off the roof.

They are not needed on every job, but I highly recommend them because they add strength where the gutter needs it most.
Are snow rods required?
Snow rods are not technically required, but I highly recommend them.

Around here, snow and ice can be hard on gutters, especially on steel roofs. Snow rods add extra protection by helping control how snow and ice come off the roof and hit the gutter system.

If the customer chooses to have the recommended snow rods installed, the gutter system is built for added strength and protection against normal Northeast Washington snow and ice conditions. That is why I recommend them. I would rather build the system right from the start than install gutters without the protection I know the roof may need.
Will the gutters hold up to snow and ice?
That is what I build them for.

Northeast Washington weather is hard on gutters, especially with steel roofs, snow, and ice. I use strong steel gutters, secure attachment methods, and added protection when the job calls for it.

If I recommend snow rods or additional fasteners and the customer chooses to include them, the system is built for added long-term strength in snow and ice conditions.
How often should gutters be cleaned or checked?
Most gutters should be checked at least once or twice a year. If you have a lot of pine trees, leaves, roof valleys, or debris around the home, you may need to check them more often.

Even with gutter protection, it is a good idea to make sure water is flowing and the downspouts are clear.
What are signs that my gutters need attention?
Some common signs include water spilling over the gutter, gutters pulling away from the fascia, sagging sections, water pooling near the foundation, erosion around the home, staining on siding or fascia, or water ending up where it should not be.

If water is not moving away from the building, the gutter system is not doing its job.
Do you clean gutters?
Our main focus is installing strong gutter systems, downspouts, gutter protection, and solving gutter-related water problems.

If you need repair work or service on an existing gutter system, give us a call and we can let you know what is currently available.
How much does a new gutter system cost?
The cost depends on the size of the home or building, roofline, number of downspouts, color choice, gutter protection, steel roof conditions, and whether extra snow and ice protection is needed.

The best way to get an accurate price is to call for a free estimate.
Are seamless steel gutters a good investment?
Yes. A well-built gutter system helps protect your foundation, siding, landscaping, walkways, entry areas, basement or crawlspace, and overall property value.

The cheapest gutter is not always the least expensive over time. A stronger system installed right can save problems down the road.
What warranty do you offer?
The gutter material is backed by the manufacturer’s product warranty.

Huguenin Construction provides a one-year, non-transferable workmanship warranty for the original customer. If I recommend additional rods or fasteners for snow and ice protection and the customer chooses to include them, the system is built for added long-term strength in winter conditions.
Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?
Yes. Huguenin Construction is a licensed Washington contractor, bonded, and insured for customer peace of mind.

Washington Contractor License: HUGUEC*063LT
Why should I choose Huguenin Construction?
You are working directly with a local husband-and-wife business, not a rotating crew from out of the area.

I’ve been doing gutter work for more than 30 years, and I take pride in building gutter systems that are strong, clean, and made for the weather we actually get here. I pay attention to the roofline, water flow, downspout placement, attachment method, snow and ice concerns, and the little details that make the system work.

Not every building is straight. Not every roofline is simple. Experience matters.
